Metacomet Trail

Blue blazed, as it is part of the New England National Scenic Trail, the Metacomet Trail consists of 62 miles of trail mostly in Central Connecticut. It goes by lakes and rivers, waterfalls and mountains, and is very rugged.

Read here about sections of it as (I try to!) run it:

  • Route 6 to Route 4 (Farmington)

Route 6 to Route 4 (Farmington)

The initial idea was to do Rattlesnake Mountain, but there were so many people, with dogs, that we decided to run from Route 6 going South instead of North.

It’s about 1.8 miles to Route 4, and it was hard! It’s a very technical trail, 90%roots and pointy rocks.

Starting off on Route 6, there is a steep uphill that will give you nice views of the Farmington Reservoir, and then the trail goes downhill on a wider and smoother trail, before taking a sharp right turn, to continue north-east.

You cross Mountain Road about a mile after starting, and be very careful doing so because it’s on a curve and people a coming in fast from both directions. It’s slightly less rocky after Mountain Road, but not by much!
