Annecy

Biking around the Annecy Lake is easy (only one big hill) and gorgeous, so put it on your list of things to do when visiting town, and make the time for it!

It is possible to rent town in several shops in town and by the lake. Rental includes a hlemet and a lock, so you can even take a break and have coffee or lunch along the way, or have a picnic.

The route

The loop is about 40km, or 25 miles. It is mostly on a bike path and flat and only crosses a few roads. West of Annecy, it includes on big uphill, but if you have an electric bike, or if you’re not in a hurry you’ll be fine! The downhill afterwards is on a road shared with cars, so be careful there. It’s the only time you’ll be with cars.

On the West you’re almost always right alongside the lake, but on the east there are several kilometers when you’re more inland, and even one tunnel (enough light that you don’t need to bring your own).

If you have time, you can stop on top of the hill to take a few minutes watching paragliders land, and there is even a bathroom there. No matter what, you’ll see many paragliders on this loop, and even go by a castle!
