Vegan in Valladolid - Yucatán

Valladolid is a town of about 57,000 inhabitants between Cancún and Mérida and is absolutely worth a visit. The town is small so easy to explore (take a free walking tour!), but you can also take many day trips from Valladolid to visit Mayan ruins such as Ek-Balam or nature preserves such as Río Lagartos (and see flamingos and crocodiles!).

So, you’ll need to fuel up for all these adventures! Here are my favorite restaurants in Valladolid, with my #1 first.

Le’ Kaat

We loved this place so much we went three times during our five day stay in Valladolid. We just had to try their breakfast, lunch and dinner foods! This beautiful restaurant is 100% vegetarian with many absolutely delicious vegan options. The salads were refreshing and colorful as well as filling, their tacos very tasty and the chocolate brownie dessert heavenly! They have a beautiful garden but also a covered area with fans for when it gets hot. You might even see a lizard in the garden!

Le’ Kaat is located on Calzada de los Frailes, between the main plaza and the old San Bernardino convent.

Elela Maya

All vegan and organic, this small restaurant is conveniently located in front of the old San Bernardino convent so you can catch the light and sound show after dinner! (9pm in Spanish, 9:30pm in English).

The drinks and food were delicious (lots of local vegetables!) and so were the desserts! Pictured here are the Tortilla Española (traditional eggs replaced by a mixture of chickpeas and corn flour) and the Salbutes Elela. It’s a small place, so go with some time to wait if it’s full, it’s worth it!

Burrito Amor

Despite what travelers from the United States might think, burritos are not a typical Mexican food. However, located next to the Calendaria church and park, this cozy eatery serves burritos… and more!

Pictured here are the vegan burrito and the vegan Mexican salad. Both were excellent! There is a section of the restaurant that is a garden and another that is covered. This place also sells art.

The staff was very friendly and vegan items are clearly identified on the menu. Note that no alcohol is served in this restaurant.

Hüper

If you crave a sandwich or wrap while walking the hot streets of Valladolid, this is the place for you. The restaurant is a. stone building with very high ceilings and many fans, which keeps the temperature inside cool.

There are a couple of vegan items on the menu, but you can ask for the veggie sandwich without cheese and make it vegan!

The smoothies were excellent too, and served with an optional biodegradable straw.
