Appleton

Appleton is a city of approximately 75,000 inhabitants in the Fox Valley with a big mall, a nice downtown, and Lawrence University. There are several trails to be explored:

Newberry Trail

The Newberry Trail is located mostly along the Fox River in Appleton. Going West from Telulah Park (you can park on E. Newberry St, hence the name), it is a paved trail and connects to downtown if you use S Olde Oneida Street to connect to Jones Park. Alternatively, you can use the North Island Trail (and a little bit of roads, but the College Ave bridge has a sidewalk and is safe to use) to do a loop back to Telulah Park.

It’s great for the usual walking and running, but since it’s paved, it’s perfect for biking, skating… or scootering! It is an easy trail but do notice that there is an uphill from Jones Park if you’re going all the way to downtown. You’ll have great views of the river, the old railway, the canals and locks… and if you’re lucky you’ll see some wildlife like the softshell turtle pictured here!

To make it longer, you can go East from Telulah Park, though the trail is less scenic there.

If you need food or refreshments before or after your adventure on the trail, check out the Tempest Collective coffee shop!
