Interstate State Park

Interstate State Park is located along the St Croix River, right across from Minnesota (north of Minneapolis) and is the oldest State Park in Wisconsin!

One of the special perks of this park is that you can access the western terminus of the Ice Age Trail. In addition to exploring the park itself, you can also rent kayaks nearby to explore the river! But as far as the trails within the park are concerned…

So many views!

There are many trails in this park, and for the ones near the river: the views from above are just awesome!

I combined several trails in one hike to get the most of the different feels the park has to offer:  lake views on the Lake O’ the Dalles Trail and bluffs on the Summit Trails as well as Echo Canyon Lake and Bluff River Trail.

There is plenty of shade in the summer on these different trails, but they are not easy. This particular loop in only 2.5 miles but you’ll be going up and down a lot, sometimes on stairs and sometimes on rocks. Definitely worth it for the views!

Separate trails are open during the winter, check our the DNR’s map for more details.
