Wausau

Located in central Wisconsin, Wausau is a town of about 40,000 people, on the Wisconsin River, and near Rib Mountain State Park. Whether you explore the city, its water system, museum, or parks, you’ll need to fuel up!

Here are my favorite places with vegan options in town:

Great Dane Pub & Brewing Co

I was happily surprised with the options and the generous portions at Great Dane. The High Point Harvest Bowl (bottom photo), is already vegan, and the Mediterranean/Falafel Bowl was easily veganized by omitting the feta cheese and tzatziki sauce.

The falafel were very well cooked, and paired perfectly with the hummus, the quinoa and the salad. It was fresh, delicious, and nutritious!

My drink was a Pomegranate Lemonade and was very tasty.

This restaurant is conveniently located close the the highway, and is very large, with comfortable large and small booths, as well as tables and space at the counter.

Tucknee Coffee Company

You can’t go wrong by serving Colectivo Coffee! And bonus score for having a vegan breakfast burrito, a soy chorizo burrito, and they also have the option of a bagel with peanut butter.

This space is very charming, with lots of light, lots of plants, and lots of people reading books. They have a chalk board where you can leave a message or a drawing, and a gender-neutral bathroom.

This coffeeshop is located a few blocks north of the historic downtown of Wausau, and easily accessible from the bus station.
