New Britain

A few miles south of Hartford, the capital, New Britain and mostly known for hosting the Central Connecticut State University campus.

Here are good options for vegans visiting New Britain.

Fresh Greens & Proteins

On the edge of the CCSU campus, off of Stanley Street, Fresh Green & Proteins had delicious options, very fresh and full of protein, as promised!

They have two different kinds of protein powder for their shakes, so make sure to mention the plant based one for a fully vegan shake. I had the tropical smoothie (pictured here) with extra protein powder.

Many food items are labeled vegan on their menus, including salads, wraps and bowls. I had the buddha bowl (quinoa, corn and pico de gallo, chickpeas, avocado and hummus) and it was delicious!

Beirut Bites

Right across from FG&P is a small Lebanese restaurant called Beirut Bites, another great place to eat if you happen to be near the CCSU campus. There are several booths for sitting, you order at the counter and can grab a drink from one of the fridges nearby. Please note they do not serve alcohol, but they have fruit juices and alcohol-free beers.

The food was absolutely delicious! We shared the Fool Modamas (Cooked fava beans with garlic, olive oil and lemon juice) and an order of the Falafel platter made vegan (deliciously crispy falafel with rice and a small salad, served with tahini sauce.)

The portions were generous: We came in after running on the Metacomet Trail, and were HUNGRY but I’m glad we shared one order of each because it was so much food!
