Green Lake Conference Center

Green Lake, with the deepest inland lake in the State (236 ft!), is a popular summer destination, although for the people living around here, it’s enjoyable all year round!

The Conference Center located on the shore of Big Lake and Norwegian bay, and popular for its golf course, has several trails to explore. I go there to run often, and in the off-season I can use the golf cart roads, but there are also real trails. Here are two options:

  • The Dawson Prairie

  • Winnebago Trail

For a map of the grounds, click here.

The Dawson Prairie

The prairie has several trails winding through the open area. This section of the Conference Center is very exposed, be aware if you go on a hot sunny day.

The trails are wide, mowed, and easy. There is a bench in the middle if you’d like to take a rest, or sit and enjoy the view.

While in the prairie, you can hear many songbirds and see several kinds of flowers. You might even be able to spot wild deer walking by.

Winnebago Trail

If you prefer a single-track feel, head over to the Winnebago Trail. It is narrow and has roots and rocks, so make sure to wear appropriate footwear.

This trail is perfect for a late afternoon/ sunset walk, as you can see the sun set on the lake as the trail follows the Norwegian Bay for a while.

You can start the trail on Hillside Road, where it heads into a wooded area before going under a stone bridge towards the lake. There is a steep uphill as it goes back up from the lake to the level of the road, right after passing Teen Tower.
